BRIDGEWAY PROFESSIONAL GROUP - Key Persons

Mark H. Kohen

I am a Clinical Psychologist licensed to practice in Oregon. I have experience in both general medical and psychiatric hospital settings as well as out-patient mental health clinics. I have been in full-time private practice since 1985. Areas of expertise and interest include: depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, chronic pain, child behavior problems, adult ADHD, and issues related to aging. I have experience in designing, implementing and operating Employee Assistance Programs as well as consulting for businesses. I work with people across the lifespan--from children to seniors. I see individuals, couples and families. I have had training in psychodynamic, family systems, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness and play therapies. My approach is a blend of these tailored to meet the needs of the particular people with whom I'm working. My style is warm and gentle, but direct and active. I often give homework and encourage people to pursue information or try new behaviors/approaches between sessions.

I believe personal challenges provide an opportunity for change and growth. To enhance and support this process, I provide a warm, nonjudgmental, safe, direct and interactive therapy environment. I use a combination of psychodynamic, developmental and family systems theory to empower clients, and help them become aware of options and facilitate growth. I have a background in mental health and education. I taught elementary school for several years, then earned a Masters in Social Work and combined these two fields to work as a school social worker. In 1981, I opened my private practice, specializing in adolescents. Since then, my areas of expertise have grown to include: couples therapy, women's issues, parent coaching, relationship issues, life transitions, and mindfulness. I work with couples and individuals of all ages.
